The story

Mangwon is what Hongdae was before the tour buses: a working market street where grandmothers shop next to film students. The move is simple and perfect — graze through Mangwon Market (croquettes, tteokbokki, cups of dakgangjeong), buy a mat at a convenience store, and walk fifteen minutes to Mangwon Hangang Park for sunset over the river.

A half-day on foot

  1. 1
    14:00Start at Ugly Bakery
It opens at noon and is closed Mondays and Tuesdays, so this walk works Wednesday to Sunday. Take the spring-onion bread with you.
  2. 2

  3. 3
    16:30Board the Seoul Battleship
About fifteen minutes on foot to the riverside, then a little further west along the park. ₩3,000 puts you inside a frigate, a patrol boat and a submarine. Closed Mondays.
  4. 4

Buy a mat at the convenience store, boil ramyeon in the machine, and let the river turn orange.
